The Graying Column was started with the sole aim of addressing societal issues related to the ageing population.
Globally, every nation is facing a graying phenomenon. However, instead of viewing it as a natural part of life’s trajectory, the ageing demographic has often been associated with an ominous dread. A dominant imagery of a silver tsunami, crippling disorders as we age (Dementia etc.), and potential economic burden, only reinforces a negative narrative among policy makers and caregivers.
As a researcher in this field, a caregiver and a granddaughter, the writer of The Graying Column, Christabel See, wants to create awareness that ageing should be celebrated just as much as the start of life. Through scientific knowledge and the chronicling of her grandmother’s end of life, Christabel invites her readers to join her in this journey to embrace ageing.
